Fundamentals of Physically Integrated Dance
AXIS Dance Company specializes in teaching a unique and inclusive dance form called Physically Integrated Dance. Over the last twenty years, dancers with and without disabilities have been working together to create new ways of moving that otherwise would not exist. During this inspiring workshop AXIS dancers will teach and guide the exploration of this dance form in an inclusive setting that by nature uses principles from many dance and movement-based disciplines. The fundamentals of this philosophy will be investigated during this each series while building trust in a self-challenging and creative environment. We invite dancers of all skill levels with or without physical disability to attend this workshop. Classes will be held on Monday nights from 7:15-8:45p at Interplay Sudio’s

Dance research and performance with Keith Hennessey
Rigorous play for dancers

AXIS hosts Keith Hennessy in a 4-week series of dance classes for all bodies-rigorous play for dance makers. Two classes focused on the duet and two classes focused on solo/group research. Exercises, improvisations, and techniques engaging touch & non-touch, the tension between metaphor and real, synchronized movement, the role of risk, as well as internal and external sources of generating-finding-revealing movement.
Keith Hennessy is an award-winning performer, choreographer, teacher and organizer. He lives in San Francisco and tours internationally. His interdisciplinary research engages improvisation, public actions and alchemy/shamanism as tools for investigating political realities.
Hennessy directs CIRCO ZERO, a contemporary circus, in intimate spectacles for stage and street.
The class is open for dancers with and without disabilities. Previous dance experience is a plus.

Do you like to move? Do you like to dance and to be creative? Do you enjoy dancing with peers? Then join our exciting creative dance class for teens with and without disabilities (age 12-21). During this 8-week session we will teach modern & creative dance techniques, giving you the opportunity to discover your own dance vocabulary. Together we will explore new and exciting ways to move, build social skills and body awareness while having fun.

DANCE ACCESS / KIDS! - Oakland Pilot: 4 TUESDAYS in APRIL
Tuesdays 4-5:15pm, April 7 –April 28
What would childhood be without the chance to express ourselves through dance? AXIS is one of few programs offering children with disabilities the opportunity to explore their “inner dancer” in a structured environment with professional disabled dancers as role models. Enroll your child in this 4-week creative dance class and give her/him the opportunity to dance with peers in a safe and fun envionment . We will focus on positive body awareness, natural creativity, team work, motor co-ordination, personal expression, discipline, and self control. Children between age 6-12 with and without disabilities are welcome to attend.
